Urban “Red” Faber was a durable spitball pitcher who managed to collect 254 career victories despite pitching for the White Sox, a club that finished in the second division in 16 of his 20 seasons. His excellent control and calm disposition allowed him to induce batters into hitting ground balls. Faber was especially successful against Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb. He defeated the Giants three times in the 1917 World Series.
