Mike Kelly was baseball’s first superstar. He was regarded as “The King of Baseball” in the 1870s and 1880s, hence the moniker King Kelly. He played every position well, and was a bigger-than-life, flamboyant figure, not unlike the great Babe Ruth who would soon follow.
