Monarchs and Crawfords

The Kansas City Monarchs and the Pittsburgh Crawfords were two of the most dominating teams in the history of the Negro Leagues.  The Monarchs were the longest running franchise in the league and the Negro Leagues answer to the New York Yankees.  At one time or another the teams enjoyed the talents of Hall of Famers like “Cool Papa” Bell (pictured here sliding safely home), Oscar Charleston, Josh Gibson, Judy Johnson, Satchel Paige, Bullet Bill Rogan, Turkey Stearns and many other greats of the Negro Leagues.
