This is Leon Day, a superb strikeout pitcher for the Newark Eagles of the Negro Leagues. He was a mainstay and ace of that team during the 1930s and 1940s. As was the case with a great number the Negro Leaguers, he could do many things well on the baseball field. He was a speedy base runner, and an exceptional hitter. When he wasn’t pitching he played second base, or in the outfield. In 1937 he had the perfect season going 13-0 as a pitcher, while batting .320.
