Max Carey was a typical dead ball era (1910s and 1920s) player. He was a crafty player who best known for his base-stealing. He held the NL record for stolen bases until Lou Brock broke it in 1974. He was considered one of the best centerfielders of his era, and was a good contact hitter ending up with a solid lifetime batting average of .285.
