Clark Griffith Gouache on board painting

Price: $1,500.00
An ex-vaudevillian, Clark Griffith was an imaginative player, manager and owner. As a pitcher for Cap Anson’s Chicago White Stockings, he employed a six-pitch arsenal including the screwball.  His quick-pitch delivery and ruse of hiding the ball before delivering a pitch earned him the nickname the “Old Fox.”  A 20-game winner for six straight seasons, Griffith, as a player-manager, led Chicago in 1901 to the first American League pennant.  In 1912, he purchased control of the Washington Senators.  Signing Latino ballplayers, and developing the role of relief pitcher were among his innovations.
