This pre-game ritual for the 1911 World Series between the New York Giants and the Philadelphia Athletics features Hall of Fame umpire Tom Connolly and Giants manager John McGraw. The A’s representative is Ira Thomas, catcher and team captain. John McGraw especially conceived the black Giants uniform just for this World Series. It was the series when Frank “Home Run” Baker earned his nickname. He hit two crucial home runs, one off Christy Mathewson, and let the A’s to a 4-2 series win.
